densmore-uri.jpgBill Densmore is a consultant and researcher on the future and sustainability of journalism and an expert on Internet information technologies and business models. He is a research fellow for the Harrington School of Communication & Media and a consulting fellow to the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute (RJI) at the Missouri School of Journalism. He is author of the white paper, "From Paper to Persona." (papertopersona.org) Densmore has organized conferences on journalist-librarian collaboration and served three years on the board of the Action Coalition for Media Education. Densmore is also a founding member and director of Journalism That Matters, Inc. and serves on the boards of the New England Newspaper & Press Association and Shires Media Partnership, Inc. In a career spanning news writing, journalism, publishing and entrepreneurship, Densmore has founded two technology companies. Amherst, Mass.-based Clickshare Service Corp. provides user registration, authentication, content access control and transaction services to Internet web content sites and publishers. CircLabs Inc. is a development-stage startup incubated as part of Densmore's Information Valet Project at RJI. It's testing service concepts for news personalization and customization, including the InfoValet Circulate Discovery Service. He holds a B.A. in environmental policy and communications from UMass Amherst and lives in Williamstown, Mass.

Lili Schliesser is a senior at Webster University in Saint Louis, MO studying Media Literacy. She serves as treasurer on the executive board of the Gateway Media Literacy Partners, a membership organization of individuals, organizations and institutions promoting media literacy education. Lili currently works with local anti-drug coalitions developing social media strategies and building media literacy education into existing projects and programs. She teaches media literacy workshops for youth and volunteers her social media and marketing skills to numerous local organizations. Lili worked in business administration and nonprofit accounting before returning to school full-time in 2012 to follow her passion for media literacy education.

external image 0289f4b.jpgKatie Donnelly is Research Associate at the Media Education Lab at the University of Rhode Island and an independent researcher focused on digital and media literacy who works with media producers, nonprofit organizations, and educational institutions to create and evaluate media projects. Katie is the former Associate Research Director for American University's Center for Social Media, where she researched the Future of Public Media, participated in the development of a new framework for evaluating the impact of public media projects, and served as a contributing writer for PBS MediaShift. Katie also previously served as Research Associate at Temple University's Media Education Lab, where she worked on several media literacy initiatives, including the development of the Code of Best Practices in Copyright and Fair Use for Media Literacy Education and related curriculum materials. Katie holds an MA in Broadcasting, Telecommunications and Mass Media from Temple University.

Danielle Donovan is a senior at the University of Rhode Island studying English, Elementary Education, and Writing. Currently, she is assisting the Media Education Lab Team with First Star URI Academy and the Summer Institute in Digital Literacy. Danielle is interested in advocating for media literacy instruction in the elementary setting and gaining access to technological resources for underprivileged youth. After graduation in the Spring of 2014 Danielle intends to begin her teaching career before applying to graduate school in order to become a reading specialist.

Maya Finkelstein is a sophomore at Colby College in Maine, and a double major in Anthropology and French. In addition to the Summer Institute, she is currently assisting the Media Education Lab, co-teaching a media class for First Star URI Academy, and assisting a media class at Calcutt Middle School. Though she is not yet sure of her future career, Maya is very interested in social justice and law, and hopes that her time at First Star will give her education experience while also giving students the ability to speak out using digital and social media as a platform.
