IV. Key Features
  • Users can create a screencast directly from the website or download the program onto their computer.

  • Screencasts can contain a portion of the screen or a full screen view.

  • Screencasts can be converted to QuickTime format and downloaded to your hard drive.

  • Users can upload their finished version to YouTube.

  • You can stop taping and directly start up again without having to start over.

  • There are 2 separate accounts: Free and Pro. For only $15 a YEAR, you can purchase the Pro account. There are several advantages of setting up a Pro account:

      • Publish directly to Google Drive, Vimeo and more
      • No watermarks
      • Editing Tool
      • Script Tools
      • And much more!

  • Helpful information:

    • Be sure to use Mozilla Firefox when directly working from the website. If you try to use Chrome you will experience some issues. If you want to get around any browser issues you can always download the application.

    • Once you click on "Start Recording" be sure to accept Java when prompted, otherwise Screencast-o-matic will not popup to record.

    • When uploading to YouTube be sure to set your video privacy as "Private." You will have an option to make the file "Unlisted" only if you have a Pro account. If you have a Pro account and uploading to YouTube, when working with students I would set the privacy as "unlisted" instead of "private." That way the video is accessible but your video will not show up to general browsers; only those with the direct link will be able to view the video.
